Those present: our regular sitters, Jean Duncan, Fiona Cooper, Jackie and Keith Parsons, Glenda Davies, Freda Paget, Davy Jones, Micheal Rogers, Janet, Kerry, Jenny. Second time of sitting with us : Llew Jenkins; First time in anything to do with spiritualism : Sandra and Ritchie Burton, Roxy and Matthew Knox.

Jean Duncan sat as the physical medium, Fiona Cooper to her left, and Jackie Parsons to her right. Jean talked to us checking that everyone could see every part of the room, and that the light was bright enough so that no shadows would confuse anything. On the table were three luminous rods which we have used at every séance, and our trumpet for direct voice. Jean asked us to send out beautiful thoughts, thinking of those we love in the Spirit world. The atmosphere in the room started to change almost immediately. Jean instructed us to stay alert and aware of everything with her and not to be influenced and go into an altered state because of the strength of the Spirit around us, and then asked us to examine the trumpet to make sure there were no strings or microphones or anything else inside or anywhere around it. Michael, as he looked into the trumpet, said there was something in it but he didn’t know what it was and handed the trumpet to Jean who placed it with its narrow end against the red light so that she could look into it from the wide end to see what he was talking about. What she saw was an eyeball floating in the trumpet, an eyeball with a brown iris. Jean does not accept that it is physical phenomena unless everyone present sees the same thing, so she passed it around the circle, so that each sitter could see for themselves and everyone did.
Shortly after this event, Jean went into trance and Basho, Marie Corelli, and Ayesha all kept us enthralled as they talked and answered a wide range of questions freely through Jean Duncan’s mediumship.
When jean came out of trance, the table was moving very gently, and the rod on the table had been moved. The energy of Spirit in the room was very strong, and at this point, Jackie Parsons and Fiona Cooper felt jean rise beside them. She had been lifted in her chair, and all the sitters came round to feel the gap between the chair legs and the floor, and when measured it was found to be approximately six inches. Jean floated there for a while and the energy kept building so that everyone commented on it. Jean was then tipped backwards at an angle, and her voice became distant.
She said ‘I don’t know what’s happening – it’s very dark.’
Without touching her body, Jackie and Fiona felt around her shoulders and could not feel her head at all.
Jean said ‘I’m up the chimney, they’ve put me up the chimney.’
Other sitters also felt around Jean’s shoulders and agreed that her head just wasn’t there, although we could all hear her voice. Those of us who have sat many times with Jean kept the atmosphere calm and talked to the new sitters about what was happening.
After a while, Jean said ‘I’m back,’ and her chair was very gently lowered back to the floor, while we all were marvelling at what had happened.
When we closed the circle and put the ordinary lights back on, we examined the wall and the fireplace behind where jean had been sitting : the wall was stone, and the fireplace made of stone slabs, as well as being sealed, so it was a physical impossibility for anything to actually go into the chimney.
We are looking forward to May 2008 to see who else loses their head!
